Discuss HW Discussion Board

Let's look at where the conversation went and highlight some particularly great responses. Remember the rubric from this summer? How should we score a few of these?

Today's Anchor Text: "Education" by Ralph Waldo Emerson

  • With your "expert" groups, you read the first 9 paragraphs of this excerpt from "Education" last week. You then joined your "home" group to discuss the text.
  • As a group, discuss and answer questions 1, 2, 3, and 5 from "Questions on Rhetoric and Style" on pg.108-109 in your LOC book.
  • Class discussion of paragraphs 1-9

Modeling

Read paragraphs 10-12

Independent Practice

Finish reading and annotating the essay.
Looking specifically for style, annotate your essay in order to answer questions 4, 6, and 10 from "Questions on Rhetoric and Style" on pages 108-109 in your LOC book.

Homework

Look at Questions for Discussion 1, 4, and 5, and Suggestions for Writing 1 and 5 to prepare for a Socratic Seminar. Instead of last year's graphic organizer, have some notes ready for these questions.

Make sure you are reading and journaling!
